About the Role

Gortnm is seeking an experienced Python Backend AI/ML Engineer with 6+ years of expertise to join our team on a contract basis in a fully remote capacity. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned machine learning professional to architect and implement cutting-edge AI/ML solutions that drive business value and innovation. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable machine learning models and algorithms that solve complex business problems and enhance product capabilities. Your role will involve building robust backend systems using Python to support AI/ML workflows, model training pipelines, and inference services at scale. You'll work with large datasets to extract insights, perform feature engineering, and optimize model performance for production environments. You'll implement end-to-end machine learning pipelines from data ingestion and preprocessing through model training, evaluation, and deployment, integrate AI/ML models into production systems using REST APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms. You'll collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to translate business requirements into technical ML solutions, optimize model performance through hyperparameter tuning, A/B testing, and continuous monitoring of model metrics. You'll implement MLOps best practices for model versioning, experimentation tracking, and automated retraining workflows, work with various ML frameworks and libraries to select the most appropriate tools for each use case. You'll ensure code quality, write comprehensive tests, and maintain documentation for ML systems and APIs, stay current with the latest developments in AI/ML research and apply innovative techniques to real-world problems. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in Python backend development with strong machine learning fundamentals, possesses excellent problem-solving abilities, and can work independently to deliver high-quality AI/ML solutions in a fast-paced environment.

What We're Looking For

We need a Python Backend AI/ML Engineer with a minimum of 6+ years of hands-on experience developing and deploying machine learning models in production environments. You must have expert-level proficiency in Python programming including advanced concepts like decorators, generators, context managers, and asynchronous programming. Strong experience with popular ML frameworks is essential, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, XGBoost, and other relevant libraries for building and training models. Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques is required, covering supervised learning (regression, classification), unsupervised learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction), deep learning (CNNs, RNNs, Transformers), and reinforcement learning concepts. Expertise in backend development using Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI for building scalable APIs and microservices is crucial. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, including services such as SageMaker, ML Engine, or Azure ML for model deployment and serving. Strong knowledge of data engineering concepts including data pipelines, ETL processes, working with SQL and NoSQL databases, and handling large-scale datasets efficiently is essential. Experience with MLOps tools and practices such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Docker, Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration of ML workloads is required. Proficiency in version control using Git, collaborative development workflows, and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment is necessary. Understanding of model optimization techniques including quantization, pruning, distributed training, and inference optimization for production environments is important. You should possess strong problem-solving skills to debug complex ML systems, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance improvements. Excellent communication abilities to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and document ML solutions clearly are essential. Mandatory skills include 6+ years Python development experience, expertise in AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow/PyTorch), backend development skills, and experience deploying models in production. Bonus points for experience with natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, recommendation systems, knowledge of big data technologies like Spark or Hadoop, and publications or contributions to open-source ML projects.
