Job Description

Cohere is hiring its first Senior Manager, Talent Development to help define how the company develops managers, leaders, and talent as it scales. As one of the world's leading AI companies, Cohere offers a rare opportunity to own and shape a function from the ground up — rather than inheriting a mature learning organization, you'll design the programs, frameworks, and ways of working that help Cohere grow its people. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role with significant influence across the People team and the wider business, working directly with the Head of HR to shape the Talent Development function from zero to one.

In this role, you will partner closely with HR Business Partners and senior leaders to build the capabilities the organization needs as Cohere scales, with the ambition of building a People function known for exceptional managers, outstanding leadership, and organizational capability that becomes a genuine competitive advantage. You will typically own areas spanning Leadership Development, including manager and leadership capability; Talent Development, including career development, succession, and high-potential programs; Manager Enablement, including practical playbooks, frameworks, and resources; Organizational Capability, improving how teams lead, collaborate, communicate, and operate; and Onboarding & Growth, helping new employees ramp quickly and successfully. This role begins as a senior individual contributor with significant influence across the business, and as Cohere continues to grow, the Talent Development function is expected to grow with it, creating opportunities to build and lead a team over time.

The ideal candidate builds capability, helping managers, leaders, and teams perform at their best, and thinks commercially, solving real business problems rather than simply delivering training. You love building, creating practical programs from zero to one, and influence through partnership, working effectively with leaders and People Business Partners. You balance strategy and execution, equally comfortable designing the vision and delivering it, and you enjoy ambiguity, operating comfortably in fast-moving environments. Cohere encourages candidates to apply even if their experience doesn't line up exactly with everything listed above.

Cohere is remote-friendly, with offices in Toronto, London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin, and Seoul, with more opening soon. Office-based employees enjoy a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events, while those not near an office receive a co-working benefit to work alongside others in their city; everyone receives a $500 home office stipend. Cohere offers a weekly lunch stipend of $75 (or local currency equivalent), full health and dental benefits including a separate mental health budget, RRSP matching, 401(k), or pension scheme depending on location, 100% parental leave top-up for up to six months for either parent, annual enrichment benefits covering arts and culture, fitness and wellness, quality time, and a workspace improvement credit, an education and learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching, six weeks of paid vacation, and a travel budget for remote employees to visit other offices plus an annual company offsite.

Salary:
$160,000 to $240,000 USD (or local market equivalent), plus equity
